Budapest is one of the most enchanting cities in Europe. Throughout history it has attracted a number of conquerors, leaving contemporary Budapest with a rich cultural legacy. Located on the bank of the Danube, the city was established when the two towns of Buda and Pest were unified in 1873.
Home to many museums, theatres and concert halls, Budapest offers a wide range of cultural events throughout the year, which is – with good reason – the main attraction for the 2.3 million tourists that visit the Hungarian capital every year.
It is also home to various UNESCO World Heritage sites well worth a visit. However, there are some aspects of Budapest that often go unnoticed: the emerging fashion and design scene largely remains overlooked by visitors, something that is about to change.
The Design District Budapest links together local boutiques in the fifth district in downtown Budapest. Located close to the river, the district was created to showcase the wide range of Hungarian-designed products that can be found in the area – from textiles and handmade furniture to chocolate and hand-mixed perfume.
The districts’ designers and shopkeepers have joined forces to create Stylewalker Night, a quarterly event that offers discounts and a chance to meet fellow fashionistas and others with a taste for the finer things in life. The boutiques stay open until 2am with live music and other entertainment on the programme.
And, if you have a passion for style, why not stay at one of the most fashionable hotels in the city?

Boutique Hotel Budapest is just a few minutes away in the midst of the downtown district, Budapest’s centre for business and commerce. Creatively designed with contemporary urban decor, the hotel is a pioneer and, with only 74 rooms, it has an intimate feel and a very personal service. It is conveniently located in the very centre of the city, making it easy to explore the local area by foot, as well as having excellent transport links.
Boutique Hotel Budapest has recently embarked on a project with FISE, the Hungarian association of young designers. This well-known, prestigious professional institution has over 400 members, carefully chosen by a board to ensure the high standards of the artists represented. Each month Boutique Hotel Budapest will exhibit the creations of young designers in order to support the community. Together with FISE, the hotel will also organise a weekly event in the Atrium of the hotel on Saturday afternoons, where designers will have the chance to display and sell their work.
The next Style Walker Night is scheduled for 19th November and the designers’ fair takes place at Boutique Hotel Budapest every Saturday. Don’t miss out!
